If you have watched the news at all recently you have probably seen this little guy, the panda cub born recently at the National Zoo. He was actually born July ninth but they are so small when they are born that zoo officials didn't allow the first viewing by reporters until now. Zoos are an integral part of the conservation of animals. Zoo's preseve biodiversity by saving threatened species from extinction and when possible they reintroduce animals into the wild. Zoos worldwide operate as a close-knit network to coordinate conservation efforts.
